Important Announcement: macOS Login Issue & Workaround
Dear Team,
We have identified a macOS login issue affecting some users after a recent update. Here’s what you need to know:
Issue Summary:
• At the login screen, your admin password may not work.
• Touch ID still works at login, but your password does not.
• Once logged in, macOS recognizes your password as normal in System Settings and other authentication prompts.
Workaround & Immediate Steps
If Touch ID Works:
- Use Touch ID to unlock your Mac.
- Immediately reset your password by following these steps:
Click Apple Logo () > System Settings
- Navigate to Touch ID & Password
- Select Change Password
- Enter your current password
- Set a new password (you can modify your existing one slightly for easier recall, but ensure it’s a strong passphrase ie: Correct-Horse-Battery-Staple!)
3. Restart your Mac (Apple Logo > Restart) and log in with your new password.
⚠ If You Restarted and Touch ID Is Unavailable ⚠:
- If this issue occurs after an update or restart, Touch ID may not be an option.
- In this case, please raise a HIGH PRIORITY ticket so we can provide you with a FileVault recovery key to unlock your Mac.
We appreciate your patience as we work with Apple to monitor this behavior. Thank you for your cooperation!
